There is no more need to learn how to set up and run perl scripts. There is no need to generate hundreds of pages of indices just to get a gendex file. One small file placed in the same directory as your gedcom is all you need.

Sites like Rootsweb, Ancestry.com, MyFamily.com, Family Tree Maker, or any of the other free database hosts, do not generate a gendex file for your use. This file is needed when you sign up with Gendex.com to have your family's names included in their system.

Gendex (www.gendex.com) is an indexing service. Although you can get similar services with the free web hosts listed above, Gendex does not hold your data. It uses the gendex file as a link so that others can find your web site via the data provided in the file. Since Gendex does not have your data they cannot sell it. It is one of the earliest sites devoted to helping genealogy researchers find other researchers with common data.

This program consists of 1 small file that will run on any PC, even those running Windows 3.X.
